"Topography Cornea" - It is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. Since the cornea is normally responsible for some 70% of the eye’s refractive power, its topography is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision. The three-dimensional map is therefore a valuable aid to the examining ophthalmologist or optometrist and can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions; in planning refractive surgery such as LASIK and evaluation of its results; or in assessing the fit of contact lenses. The procedure is carried out in seconds and is completely painless. At Mumbai Eye Care, we routinely perform corneal topography for patients for keratoconus screening and follow up, contact lens fits, screening for LASIK and other refractive surgeries, for planning of Toric IOL and Toric ICL, LRI and post keratoplasty astigmatism. We use the Tomey TMS-4 which is among the most accurate corneal topographers.
"Aberrometer" - Refractive errors beyond just sphere and cylinder are measured in terms of aberrations. This is measured by using a device that is called aberrometer. It works on wavefront principle. This device measures the total aberrations in the human eye. It gives a pictorial depiction of the various aberrations and their absolute value. This information is important for Customized LASIK surgery. At Mumbai Eye Care, we measure the wavefront aberrations using the Hartmann Shack aberrometer from Huvitz.
"Anterior Segment optical coherence tomography" - Optical coherence tomography is like the CT scan of the eye. It gives the micron level anatomical details of the structures in the eye. The anterior segment OCT gives information about the cornea and anterior chamber angle. This helps measure the thickness of the cornea at various positions and also provides the corneal power at various points on the cornea. This also provides the most accurate anterior chamber depth that is important in deciding surgeries like ICL. At Mumbai Eye Care, we use Optovue Anterior Segment OCT.
"Visual Fields Analyser" - Glaucoma is a progressive condition that leads to progressive visual field loss. It is hence important to monitor these patients regularly to test their visual fields. Using special software the progression of the disease can be made out. This helps in appropriate management of patients.
"OCT" - Optic Nerve Head and Retinal Nerve Fiber analysis using Optical Coherence Tomography Analysis can help in analyzing the optic nerve status and also the status of the retinal nerve fiber layer. This test can pick up nerve fiber damage before there is clinical evidence of glaucoma. This can help diagnose glaucoma early and treat at an early state to avoid vision-threatening complications.OCT provides layer-by-layer detail of the retina. This tests helps in detection of a number of retinal pathologies. An early detection can help in early treatment of the lesions. It also helps monitoring of the patients on treatment for macular edema.
